Species Distribution - Freshwater Fish
   Tai Po Kau Nature Reserve
    Site Description

Tai Po Kau Stream is located in a valley northeast of Grassy Hill within Tai Po Kau Nature Reserve.  The valley is covered by very mature woodlands.  Tai Po Kau Stream is a typical mountain stream in Hong Kong with excellent water quality.  The stream is interlaced with slow-flowing pool sections and riffle sections with fast water flow.  The stream bed is mostly comprised of stones of different sizes, with little mud or sand.  This creates a wide array of microhabitats for various fish species.  The stream is within a protected area and free from any development threat.  This environmental setting favours the persistence of a diverse fish community.
